1.2 Indexability & statusLowInferred

URL missing from sitemap

If an important URL is in no sitemap, I am relying entirely on links for discovery. The sitemap is a cheap safety net, so my key pages should all be in it.

What it is

An important URL isn’t listed in any sitemap.

Why it matters

Slower discovery of new/updated pages.

How to fix it

Add to sitemap; keep it current.

How to find it on your site

  1. List the URLs in your sitemaps and compare against your important pages.
  2. Flag any key page that is absent.
  3. Add the missing URLs and keep the sitemap generated automatically where possible.
  4. Resubmit the sitemap in Search Console.

Cross-reference to ranking and citation factors

Sitemaps support discovery and freshness rather than ranking directly, but a missing key page is a missed discovery aid.

Impact

Low; discovery speed. Inferred.
