NCS Checker

Last updated 29 August 2026.

NCS Checker is a Chrome extension published by Laurelin Labs Limited (Company Number 16724815, London, United Kingdom). This policy explains what the extension does with data. The short version: out of the box everything happens on your device and nothing is sent anywhere; if you add your own API credentials for the optional deeper analysis, data flows only to the providers you chose, under your own accounts, and never to us.

What the extension does

When you click the extension icon, it reads the page you are viewing and computes the Non-Commodity Score: a measure of how much a page says that an AI answer engine could not already get elsewhere. Two of the four score vectors are computed entirely on your device. The other two are optional and run only if you add your own credentials in settings: an AI provider key (Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini) to grade experiential evidence, and a DataForSEO account to measure information gain against the live Google top 10.

What we collect

Nothing. Laurelin Labs does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any user data.

  • There is no account, no server of ours involved, no analytics, and no telemetry.
  • We never see the pages you score, your scores, or your credentials.
  • Your API credentials are stored only on your device, in your browser extension storage (chrome.storage.local), and are removed when you click Remove in settings or uninstall the extension.

What leaves your device, and only if you enable it

  • With an AI provider key saved: the readable text of a page you score is sent to the one provider you chose (Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini), under your own key and their terms, at the moment the grade runs. Their handling of that request is governed by their privacy policies, not ours.
  • With DataForSEO credentials saved: one search-results lookup per score is made to DataForSEO under your own account, and the extension fetches the top-ranking public pages for your query so the scored page can be compared against them. These fetches are read-only and happen only during a score you started.
  • First use of information gain: the extension downloads a machine-learning model's weight files (data, not code) from huggingface.co once, and your browser caches them. Nothing about you or your pages is sent in that download.

Remove your credentials in settings and the extension returns to sending nothing anywhere.

Permissions and why they are used

  • activeTab and scripting: to read the page you are viewing, only when you click the icon, using read-only analysis scripts that modify nothing.
  • storage: to keep your optional credentials on your device.
  • Optional host access (requested only when you enable the matching feature): api.anthropic.com, api.openai.com or generativelanguage.googleapis.com for the grade you configured; api.dataforseo.com for the search lookup; and broad site access solely to fetch the top-ranking pages during a score. Broad site access is handed back to Chrome automatically when you remove your DataForSEO credentials.

The extension does not use any remote code. All executable code, WebAssembly included, runs from within the installed package.

Your control of the data

Everything the extension stores lives in your browser. Clear your credentials from the settings page at any time, or remove the extension. Because nothing is sent to us, there is no server-side data to request or delete.

Third parties

Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and DataForSEO receive requests only if you add your own credentials for their services, under your own agreements with them. The extension is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any of them.
