How URL submission actually works in 2026

Answer first: there is exactly one legitimate way to push URLs to search engines programmatically, and it is IndexNow. One POST request, authenticated by a static key file on your site, shared with every participating engine. Everything else is either manual, restricted or dishonest.

Google runs no public submission API. The old submit endpoint is long retired, Request Indexing lives manually inside Search Console, and the official Indexing API is scoped to job posting and livestream structured data with roughly 200 URLs a day. The tools that abuse it for normal pages sit outside Google's terms, and Google has been squeezing them. What Google actually consumes at scale is your sitemap, which is why this tool reads yours and reports whether it is doing its one job: carrying honest lastmod dates that tell Google what changed.

Bing went the other way and co-authored IndexNow, an open protocol any engine can join. Your key file at the site root is the whole ownership handshake. Submissions fan out to Microsoft Bing, Yandex, Seznam, Naver and other adopters, and because Bing's index feeds several AI answer engines, IndexNow is currently the shortest path between publishing a page and having it citable by an assistant.

Brave is the odd one out. Its index is built primarily from the Web Discovery Project, anonymised browsing signals from real Brave users, plus a manual submit form with no API behind it. The form challenges automated traffic, so a server-side submitter would simply fail, and a tool that pretends otherwise is lying to you. We give you the form and your URL list to paste; we built the automation and measured it before deciding not to ship it.

What we learned building this

We first built this as a local Python CLI: sitemap diffing, IndexNow batching and a Playwright automation for Brave's form with polite delays and a hard stop on any challenge page. The IndexNow half was flawless. The Brave half worked only from residential IPs and only at low volume, which is exactly what you would predict from a form that exists to hear from humans. That experience set this tool's scope: automate the protocol that was designed to be automated, check the sitemap Google actually reads, and be straight with you about the rest. Can I submit URLs to Google with this tool?

No, and not with any tool. Google retired its public submit endpoint; Request Indexing exists only manually inside Search Console, and the official Indexing API covers only job posting and livestream pages. What actually drives Google recrawls is an accurate, frequently updated sitemap with honest lastmod dates, which this tool checks for you.

Which search engines does IndexNow reach?

One IndexNow submission is shared with every participating engine, including Microsoft Bing, Yandex, Seznam and Naver. Because Bing powers or feeds several AI search products, IndexNow is also the fastest route into those answer engines.

Why does the tool need a key file on my site?

The key file is the entire IndexNow ownership model: a plain text file at your site root whose name and content match your key. It proves to the engines that whoever submits URLs for the host also controls the host. No account, no OAuth, one static file.

Can Brave Search submissions be automated?

Not honestly. Brave has no submission API and its submit form challenges automated traffic, so this tool gives you the form and your URL list to paste instead. Brave discovers most pages through its Web Discovery Project, anonymous page visits from real Brave users, so genuine traffic matters more than the form.

How fast will submitted pages be indexed?

IndexNow tells an engine a URL changed; the engine still decides whether and when to crawl and index it. Submissions typically get new URLs crawled within hours on Bing, but indexing is never guaranteed by any submission mechanism, and anyone promising instant indexing is selling something.
